Delta Threads

polyester-cotton
thread with reemission
divider

Delta threads are specialistic threads with a continuous polyester core in a cotton braid, possessing reemission throughout the wavelength range λ = 400-1100 nm in accordance with Military Standard NO-84-A203/A1:2010 Military Clothing and Equipment Items – Spectral characteristics of colors – Requirements and test methods.

The thread colors comply with approved color standards used in production for military purposes, as described in the Defense Standard, which specifies CIELab color coordinates and permissible color differences relative to the current standard.

For the production of military clothing and equipment items, we also recommend using other threads such as Polico (polyester-cotton), Ester (polyester-polyester), and Arena (cut polyester).

In modern military textiles and equipment, visual camouflage alone is no longer sufficient. Materials used in uniforms, load-bearing systems, and field equipment must also remain compatible with infrared detection systems. Even small components, such as sewing threads, can influence the overall infrared signature of a product. For this reason, IRR sewing thread has become a critical element in military manufacturing, directly affecting operational safety and compliance with military specifications.

DELTA sewing threads have been developed to meet these exacting requirements, offering controlled infrared reflection alongside reliable mechanical performance for demanding tactical applications.

Characteristics of DELTA Sewing Threads

DELTA is a specialist polyester cotton sewing thread designed specifically for military and defence-related use. It combines a continuous polyester core with a cotton wrap, delivering a balanced structure that supports both strength and controlled surface behaviour.

This construction allows DELTA to function reliably as one of the professional military sewing threads used in garments and equipment that must perform consistently under mechanical stress, environmental exposure, and repeated use. The thread is engineered to support uniform stitch quality while maintaining compliance with strict colour and infrared requirements.

Core-Spun Construction and Production Technology

The core of DELTA consists of continuous polyester filaments, providing tensile strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to seam failure. This core is wrapped with cotton fibres, which improve surface friction control, facilitate smooth sewing, and support consistent dye uptake.

The cotton wrap also plays an important role in achieving stable visual and infrared properties. By controlling the outer surface of the thread, the manufacturer ensures that both colour appearance and infrared behaviour remain consistent across production batches. This makes DELTA a dependable tactical sewing thread for high-volume military manufacturing.

IRR Properties and Colour Stability

A defining feature of DELTA is its controlled infrared reflective threads performance. The thread exhibits IRR properties across the full wavelength range of λ = 400–1100 nm, supporting compatibility with military infrared camouflage systems.

Thread colour is aligned with CIELab colour coordinates, while IRR values conform to the requirements specified in military technical documentation. To ensure this level of precision, the manufacturer employs a modern spectrophotometer for continuous colour and IRR analysis. This measurement-based approach allows for accurate verification and long-term stability of both visual colour and infrared reflection properties.

As a result, DELTA threads integrate seamlessly into military textile systems, helping maintain uniform infrared signatures across fabrics, seams, and finished products.

Applications in Military Clothing and Equipment

DELTA threads are primarily used as threads for military uniforms and equipment, where reliability and compliance are essential. Typical applications include combat and service uniforms, military footwear, backpacks, and tactical bags.

They are also widely applied in pouches, load-bearing equipment, belts, straps, and harnesses, where seams are exposed to constant mechanical stress. In addition, DELTA performs effectively in tents and field equipment, supporting durable construction while preserving camouflage compatibility.

Across all these uses, the thread contributes to both the structural integrity of the product and its operational effectiveness in infrared-sensitive environments.

Range of Variants and Intended Use

DELTA sewing threads are available in multiple sizes, from DELTA 120 to DELTA 20, allowing manufacturers to adapt thread selection to different fabric weights and construction requirements. Finer variants are suitable for lighter uniform fabrics and detailed sewing operations, while thicker versions are intended for reinforced seams, load-bearing components, and heavier textile structures.

This range supports flexible application across diverse military products, ensuring that both seam strength and IRR performance are maintained regardless of material thickness or design complexity.

Technical Standards and Product Safety

All DELTA thread parameters comply with European Standard EN 12590:2002, confirming conformity with recognised requirements for sewing thread performance. In addition, the threads meet all applicable criteria for safe industrial use.

Compliance with these standards, combined with documented colour and IRR control, provides manufacturers and defence suppliers with confidence in the repeatability, traceability, and reliability of the product.

A Reliable Component for Military Manufacturing

DELTA represents a considered approach to sewing thread design for defence and security applications. By combining a robust core-spun structure with precisely controlled infrared and colour properties, it supports both durability and camouflage integrity.

For manufacturers seeking dependable IRR sewing thread solutions that align with military standards and real-world operational needs, DELTA offers a technically sound and proven foundation for modern military textiles and equipment.
